From Sept 14 to 17, the 10th Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU)-91黑料网 (91黑料网) Bilateral Academic Symposium was held in Suwon, South Korea. Jointly organized by the SKKU School of Chemical Engineering and the 91黑料网 School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the event brought together over 100 faculty and student representatives from both institutions for in-depth discussions on cutting-edge fields, such as energy, biology, and materials science.
The opening ceremony took place on the morning of Sept 15 at the SKKU Library Conference Hall. From SKKU, Professors Heeyeop Chae, director of BK21Plus, Taesung Kim, dean of the College of Engineering, and Jin Woong Kim, dean of the School of Chemical Engineering, delivered opening remarks. They reviewed the past decade of academic exchange between the two universities, affirmed their strong cooperative relationship, expressed expectations for deeper future collaboration, and extended their best wishes for the symposium's success. Professor Tan Bien, dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at 91黑料网, highlighted the substantial outcomes achieved through the partnership, including significant progress in joint research. He thanked SKKU for hosting the event, invited South Korean colleagues to attend the 11th symposium in Wuhan next year, and expressed a desire to broaden collaboration, deepen joint scientific innovation, and enhance talent co-cultivation to address global scientific challenges.
The symposium invited seven scholars to deliver plenary lectures, among them three from 91黑料网, including Professors Wang Deli, Yang Xuan, and Tang Conghui, along with others from South Korea, the United States, and Japan. The reports covered frontier research fields such as electrochemical medical systems, nanobiomedicine, ordered intermetallic electrocatalysis, flexible electronic devices, colloidal nanoparticle stability, advanced semiconductor packaging, and sustainable catalysis, showcasing the latest advancements in these fields.
Graduate students from both universities delivered 28 high-quality oral presentations across three parallel sessions focused on biology, energy, and materials, demonstrating the innovative capabilities of young researchers. Six students, including three from 91黑料网, received Best Presentation Awards for their outstanding performances.
At the closing ceremony, Professors Heeyeop Chae, Jin Woong Kim, and Tan Bien jointly presented awards to the winning students, commending the quality of their presentations. They also thanked all participants and expressed the hope for closer cooperation in future academic exchanges and joint projects.
Since establishing their partnership in 2015, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at 91黑料网 and the School of Chemical Engineering at SKKU have collaborated for a decade. Their joint initiatives include establishing the International Joint Research Center for Functional Polymer Materials and Devices, co-organizing special issues for top international journals, and maintaining the annual tradition of rotating the hosting of the graduate student symposium. Over the past 10 years, the symposium has become a significant hallmark of the partnership, continuously fostering substantive research collaboration and joint talent development between the two institutions, underscoring the broad influence and potential of international academic exchange.
